A Laugh on My Behalf

Today’s embarrassing moment is brought to you (well, actually me) by Scandinavian dance practice…which, let me tell you, is THE place to be on Monday nights for small town summer social hour.

As I am walking past the bleachers, I hear a friendly voice call out, “Hi, Amber!”

I reflexively turn to my left, say, “Hi!”… and a women I don’t recognize says, “Hi” back.

I look her in the eye and smile at her. She smiles at me. I smile back at her some more. It’s getting awkward fast.

“I’m so sorry. What’s your name?”

“I’m Sarah.”

I stare at her some more and smile.

“I can’t place you.”

“I can’t place you, either.”

I stare at her. She stares at me.

And as I’m trying to figure out how on earth this woman knows my name and why she called it, -known face shouts from a mere 5 feet away, “Amber! Over here!”
